After the semester ended, Marshal and I headed back to Ohio for winter break. On the way, we stopped at Landoll’s Mohican Castle for a little adventure. We had the perfect little get-a-way to destress from exams and get in the christmas spirit. The castle was perfect!
The castle is located on a 30 acre estate in Loudenville, Ohio. It’s nestled up in the hills known as the Mohican Valley. It was so quiet and peaceful. The castle is made out of the wood and stone found on the estate when it was built.
When we visited the castle we learned about a haunting history that occurred in the 1800’s. Before the Castle, a church lived on top of the hill. The congregation included German and English descendants- the church argued on which language to speak. When the dispute was settled on english, the Germans dug up their dead and moved them to establish a new congragation with a new cemetary. The English church mysteriously burned to the ground not long after. When a children’s book factory was built on the land in the 1900’s, it too burned to the ground. In 2007, the castle’s restaurant burned down- none of the fires have been solved.
Marshal and I stayed in the Buchheit Suite. It had a private entrance, half kitchen, fireplace, and a jacuzzi tub. It even had heated floor tiles in the bathroom! My favorite part were the windows surrounding the room looking out to the snowy forest.
We ate dinner at the castle and it was amazing. They bring fresh rolls and have homemade blueberry jam- it was so good! Marshal had short rib with asparagus and I had salmon with a baked potato. We shared their brownie sundae for dessert. 🙂
The castle was so pretty at night with all the lights lit up!
For an extra special stay, the castle will enhance your visit with a unique package. You can choose to add a package for a special occasion. They also have packages for movie lovers, adventures, or those on a romantic get-a-way.
We had such a great time visiting! The Castle hosts murder mystery parties, weddings, and events. They also just opened their new South Patio which includes an indoor pool, hot tub, sauna, fitness center, lounge, and massage room.
Thanks so much to Landoll’s Mohican Castle for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.
